Treasure Hunter Kumiko

In a corner of a big city in Japan, there lives a silent girl Kumiko (played by Rinko Kikuchi) who is out of tune with her surroundings. She is a rare bright color in the dark and busy world, but most of the time she is lost in the crowd. When she goes to work every day, wearing work clothes, she is like a soulless puppet, waiting for the time to get off work with dull eyes. While her peers gathered to discuss fashion topics, she huddled in the tea room preparing tea for her boss, hiding narrow and dark thoughts in her heart, but in the end she did not have the courage to realize them. Kumiko is a worker ant without freedom. She is ordered around by her boss. She walks around empty and dull, and does not even want to have any communication or contact with her old classmates. As night falls, the cramped apartment becomes her small but safe ideal kingdom. She feeds rabbits instant noodles and her favorite movie is Fargo (1996). Due to repeated playback, the video quality has become unsightly, and she firmly believes that the treasure buried by the people in the play must exist. The world is so big and she wants to explore it.
