Shoplifters

In the middle of Tokyo's urban jungle, an old and shabby old house remains. Shibata's family of five lives here crampedly. Aji (played by Lily Franky), a man who works as a temporary worker at a construction site, often takes his son Shota (played by Shiro Hinoki) to the supermarket to steal daily necessities. On this day, on their way home, they met Yuri (played by Sasaki Miyuki), a four-year-old girl who was staying alone outdoors. His wife Shindai (played by Sakura Ando) initially strongly advocated sending the girl back to her parents, but she felt compassion when she saw the situation of the girl's native family. Originally, the Shibata family relied on the pension of the old lady Hatsue (played by Shirin Kuki). Now that there is an extra person, it is naturally a little more difficult. Including Shindai's younger sister Aki (played by Matsuoka Mayu), although the family is wandering on the edge of poverty and illegality, their deep fetters tightly connect them so that their hearts will not become cold with the cold city... The film won the Palme d'Or at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.
