Babylon 2022

The film focuses on the early days of Hollywood in the 1920s, the transition period from silent to talkies, and is full of people chasing fame, wealth and power. It depicts the ups and downs of multiple characters, as well as ambitious, wild and completely out-of-control lives. Most of the characters are fictional but inspired by real-life Hollywood stars: Brad Pitt plays the party-loving movie star Jack Conrad, who is inspired by real-life John Gilbert, Clark Gable, Douglas Fairbanks and others; Margot Robbie plays a scrappy, ambitious woman Actor Nellie Laroy is a fusion of real-life early Hollywood stars such as Clara Bow, Jenny Eggers, Joan Crawford, and Alma Reubens; Diego Calva plays Mexican immigrant Manny Torres, a Hollywood outsider who serves as the audience's eyes in the Babylonian world; Li Lijun plays Fay Zhu, inspired by Anna May Wong; Maguire plays James McKay, inspired by Chaplin; and Max Minghella plays the only real character: producer Irvin Thalberg.
