Rise Up

The story takes place in the early 1980s, when the apartheid policy set off a turbulent wave in South Africa. Patrick (Derek Luke) is a foreman at an oil refinery. He and his wife, Priscilla, have been married for many years and raised two lovely little daughters together. They live a very happy life. The increasingly serious racial discrimination aroused the anger of the local black people, and they vented this anger through violence and destruction. An explosion occurred at the refinery, and Patrick, the person in charge, was arrested by the police. Although there was no definite evidence that Patrick was the mastermind, Patrick was treated inhumanely at the police station just because of his skin color. Not only that, his wife was also implicated. After being released from prison, Patrick felt deep despair about reality, so he joined the African National Congress Party.
