John (Fred Astaire) is a very talented dancer, and singer Card (Victor Moore) is John's best friend and partner, and the friendship between the two is very deep. John wholeheartedly wants to marry his childhood sweetheart Margaret (Betty Furness), but Card is not optimistic about this marriage. In order to disrupt John's wedding, Card found various excuses to delay the wedding, causing John to miss the wedding ceremony. Angry, Margaret and her father demanded that John bring $25,000 in order to gain their forgiveness. In desperation, John had to embark on a journey to raise money. John and Card came to New York and met a woman named Penny (Ginger Rogers) in an accident. After some twists and turns, John discovered that Penny was a dance coach. Not only that, but the rhythm of the two was also in sync, so they decided to form a partnership.
