Hitting the Right

The "old" of Cantonese opera provides an excellent dramatic background for the "new wave". Xu Anhua's second work uses the backstage of a theater troupe as the stage to create a story that combines style with reality. Cheung Chau can be said to be a large-scale backstage. Its simple outlying island style, combined with the iconic makeup, gorgeous costumes and sensory stage performances of Cantonese opera, create a mysterious and enchanting atmosphere. The grudges between the two generations actually involve business scams and military and political affairs. Yin and Yang, humans and ghosts, new and old, old and young, true and false, are intricate and complicated. Xiao Fangfang's performance was easy to express, and she brought to life the ghostly and charming duo of "Thirteen O'Clock". Director Ann Hui's whimsical touch adds a special charm to Cantonese opera.
