The story takes place in a news television station in Washington. Jenny (Holly Hunter) is a news program producer who works there. She has a strong sense of morality and responsibility and is the backbone of the production team. During an interview, broadcaster Tom (William Hurt) was moved to tears by the interviewee. This shocked Jenny and couldn't help but fall in love with Tom's kindness and simplicity. Alan (Albert Brooks) is Jenny's partner. In his eyes, Tom's tears were a complete fraud and performance, but no one believed him. Layoffs at the TV station are imminent. Allen, who is unsociable and unsophisticated, is fired, while Tom, a shrewd and smooth man, is rising steadily. Fortunately, in the end, the facts proved Tom's hypocrisy and allowed Jenny to make the right choice.
