During the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhao Xingde (Hiroshi Sato) ) was speechless when faced with Xixia's examination questions and regretted the palace examination. Afterwards, the frustrated Xing De decided to leave the Great Wall and travel to Xixia, which is full of reverie. During the trip, the caravan where Xingde was located was attacked by a mercenary force composed of Han people. He was forced to join the army and gradually gained the appreciation and respect of the captain Zhu Wangli. During the battle with the Uighurs, he rescued and hid the Uighur princess Srubia (played by Anna Nakagawa). The two turned from hatred to love, and made an appointment to escape to Xixia. However, due to an unexpected mistake, Xing De had to leave his lover behind and go alone. Unexpectedly, two years after he left, Srubia was occupied by Xixia Prince Li Yuanhao (played by Tsunehiko Watase). Suffering from the influence and toy of fate, Xing De is destined to leave an eternal legend in the dust of history... This film is adapted from the famous work of Japanese historical novelist Yasushi Inoue, and won the 12th Japan Film Awards in 1988 for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor (Toshiyuki Nishida).
