Nowhere

During the 2008 financial crisis, the gypsum factory, an important economic pillar of the small town of Empir in Nevada, USA, closed down, leaving the town empty, and the postal code here was also cancelled. After the death of her husband, Fern (played by Frances McDormand), who has spent almost his whole life in the small town of Ampierre, is unable to support his life on his own. In order to keep the cost of living to a minimum, she moved her simple belongings into a modified van and started working on the road while traveling westward. She worked part-time on Amazon assembly lines, in amusement park cafes, and in national forests. Along the way, she met many van sojourners, got to know each other, helped each other, and formed friendships.
