Showa 64 Part 1

The year 1989 coincided with Japan’s Showa 64, but this year did not last long. With the death of the emperor, the short Showa 64 came to an end in a hurry. And within these limited seven days, a kidnapping case of a young girl occurred somewhere. The kidnappers demanded a huge ransom of 20 million yen and cleverly dealt with the victims' families and investigators. Although the victim's father (Masatoshi Nagase) paid the ransom as agreed, the kidnappers brutally murdered the girl. Because Japan is at a critical moment when the old and new eras are changing, the case code-named "64" did not attract too many people's attention. Even more than ten years later, this unresolved case is still an unforgettable knot for many investigators. Mikami Yoshinobu (played by Hiroshi Sato), who was a case investigator at the time, now works as a publicity officer at the Gunma Prefecture Police Station, dealing with his superiors and the media all day long. The final deadline of "64" is getting closer and closer, and people seem to remember this mysterious case again... This film is adapted from the mystery novel of the same name by Hideo Yokoyama.
