Sludge

Ellis (Tye Sheridan), a 14-year-old boy who lives on the Mississippi River, and his friend Neck discovered an abandoned boat on an island in the center of the river. There was also a mysterious wandering man named Mud (Matthew McConaughey) temporarily living on the boat. Mud claimed to have lived here when he was a child, and asked Eisley and Neck to help him because of his limited mobility. Ellis, whose family is on the verge of falling apart, almost instinctively trusts Mud, provides the latter with food, and learns about Mud's past with his childhood sweetheart, Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon), who has been obsessed with him for many years and killed people for her. It turns out that Mud is trying to take Jennifer away while avoiding bounty hunters on the island. Ellis is willing to believe in Mud's love, even though his life is full of disappointing undertones, and he is willing to help this strange big friend...
