Starting from the Coast

The Liu family lives in a small coastal town in the north. The grandfather Liu Shizhen lives alone in the village with a stubborn temper and abide by the rules; the father Liu Weiguo, who is hard-spoken and soft-hearted and loves face; the mother Wang Peifen who dotes on her son and is enthusiastic about charity; and the grandson Liu Shouchuang, who pursues his photography dream and makes a hard living in the south. However, the family has not had a dinner together for a long time. The annual Grain Rain Fishermen's Festival in the fishing village is about to be held, but only Liu Shizhen and Lao Zhang are very interested in the Grain Rain Sea Sacrifice Ceremony. After three years away from home, Liu Shouchuang suddenly returned with the news of his marriage next month. A rare dinner together unexpectedly revealed the conflict between Liu Shizhen and his son Liu Weiguo that had been buried for many years. The arrival of Liu Shouchuang's girlfriend Qian Lu also brings changes to this fisherman family. The persistence and compromise between two generations of father and son, the inheritance and disappearance of the fishbone spirit, the opening up of the city and the persistence of the fishing village, and the Chinese-style marriage under the house problem are all gathered in this ordinary northern Chinese fishermen's family, waiting to be solved on the days when the fishermen open the sea.
