Life and Death by the Sea

In 1944, at the end of World War II, Uchida was a teacher at a national school in the Amami Islands. There are naval special attack boats stationed on the island, and Shuo is a newly transferred lieutenant. After meeting several times, the lieutenant was deeply attracted to Uchida. At the same time, the lieutenant who devoted himself to learning and singing island songs also made Uchida intoxicated. After several contacts, the two people who liked each other finally fell in love. However, her deep love for the Lieutenant also tortured her since the never-ending war would force Shaku to leave the island one day to fight elsewhere - This film is adapted from "The End of the Island" and "Life and Death by the Sea" co-authored by the novelist Hideo Mizuo and his wife Shioya Miho.
