Adapted from the novel of the same name by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery. 2016 new TV movie. Matthew Cuthbert and Marilla Cuthbert, a single brother and sister living in the town of Avonlea, Prince Edward Island, originally planned to adopt a boy to help with farm work, but the adoption center mistakenly sent a girl to them. This red-haired orphan girl named Anne Shirley was full of rich imagination and eloquent. In her imagination, all natural scenery became able to speak and have a soul. Marilla, who originally discovered that she had mistaken the person, planned to send Anne back, but Matthew kept Anne behind instead.
