The Bells of Qingliang Temple

In August 1945, the Japanese surrendered unconditionally. Aunt Yangjiao (played by Ding Yi) picked up an abandoned baby on her way back to the village. Judging from the clothes wrapped around the baby, it seemed that it was a Japanese child. After much hesitation, she took him home. The folks and family in the village hated the Japanese invaders and firmly opposed her adopting this enemy baby. However, the kind-hearted Aunt Yangjiao finally kept him, named him Gou Wa, and raised him as her grandson. Gou Wa gradually grew up to be considerate, and he regarded Madam Yangjiao's mute son Hu Lu (played by You Yong) as his father. Unexpectedly, Hu Lu was killed in a road construction accident. In desperation, Gou Wa was given to the childless Niu Jinchuan (played by Zhu Shibin). Later, in exchange for a wedding gift for her daughter Xiu Xiu (played by Li Ting), the aging aunt gave Gou Wa to Qingliang Temple. Twenty years later, Master Ming Jing (played by Pu Cunxin) who visited Japan with the national Buddhist delegation arrived in Japan. Kazuko Oshima (played by Kurihara Komaki) recognized Master Ming Jing in front of him from the belt as his son who had been separated for decades...
