The Debate

This film is based on a true story and was nominated for the American Teen Audiences Choice Award. In Texas in the 1930s, black people were deprived of the right to vote and suffered segregation and discrimination in employment, justice, military service, marriage and other aspects. Mel Tolson (Denzel Washington) wants his fellow citizens to do something. He founded the first black college debate team at his school. After careful selection, four students stood out: Hamilton (Jermaine Williams), Henry (Nate Parker), Samantha (Jurnee Smollett) and James (Denzel Whitaker). As the debate team grew, Mel constantly challenged society's traditional ideas at the time. His rebellious spirit and his fierce teaching methods were constantly bombarded by people, but he always insisted on his beliefs, and finally entered the debate hall of Harvard University with the debate team...
