Dim Lights

Hong Kong was once famous around the world for its streets full of neon lights, but with the changes of the times, the splendid prosperity of the past seems to be a thing of the past. The wife found it difficult to accept her husband's death and spent all day sorting out his belongings at home. Everyone around her told her to stop being persistent, but to no avail. One day, she found a key to her late husband's secret neon light factory, and met his young apprentice there. She learned that her late husband had always wanted to rebuild a mysterious neon sign that had been dismantled. The wife, who hopes to fulfill her last wish, gradually understands the stories of each past lantern sign in the process. Sylvia Chang and Simon Yam are collaborating again after 39 years apart. Together with new actors Chow Hanning and Cai Siyun, they tell a unique history of Hong Kong. The neon lights in the film coincide with recent demolition projects. Different artistic symbols are used throughout the film, which not only metaphorizes the city, but also contrasts with the Hong Kong people who are trying to turn the tide. As the director said: Although persistence is empty, life may have weight only if there is persistence.
