The story takes place in a remote town, where veteran detective Dave (Tommy Lee Jones) is investigating a vicious murder case. This brutal killer really caused quite a panic in the town. As the investigation deepened, Dave found that the case became more complicated and confusing. A man named Balboni (John Goodman) surfaced and became Dave's main suspect. A movie star comes to the town, and coincidentally, he is none other than Dave's childhood playmate Elold (played by Peter Sarsgaard). After a drink, Elold revealed a shocking secret, and this secret was actually related to a case Dave investigated decades ago. Gradually, Dave found that he and his family seemed to be involved in a conspiracy. What is the truth? Where is the murderer hiding? Devoted to his duties, Dave decided to get to the bottom of it.
