The film follows the theme of fatherly love from Zhu Ziqing's prose of the same name, with fatherly love as the main clue, telling a vivid family story in a cinematic way. A poor mountain village in the 1990s. Chunxiu, a twelve-year-old girl, lost her mother in her early years and was dependent on her father and her paralyzed grandmother. His father suffered from lung cancer and had only a short life, so he married Guilan, hoping to leave Chunxiu to her after his death. But unexpectedly, Guilan had already suffered from uterine cancer before she got married and died. She also had the same purpose as Guilan's father. At first, they concealed their purposes from each other, but during three months of living together, both parties discovered the other's secrets, and no one revealed them. Out of his sincere and noble love for his children, the father decided to keep this secret. Not long after, Guilan and her father died of illness, and Chunxiu used her frail shoulders to shoulder the burden of the family instead of her father.
