Dan (Michael Douglas) has a happy family that everyone admires. The relationship between him and his wife Beth (Anne Archer) is stable and long-lasting, and their daughter Ellen (Ellen Hamilton Latzen) is even more clever and lovely. By chance, Dan actually had an affair with a woman named Alex (Glenn Close). Dan felt guilty when he returned home and faced his wife and children. He secretly vowed to never let betrayal happen again. Unfortunately, Alex does not agree with Dan. On the surface, she is a mature and stable intellectual, but in her heart, Alex has paranoia and stubbornness beyond ordinary people. In order to satisfy her selfish desires, she constantly harasses Dan and his family. Soon, this harassment escalates into a crime. Facing the menacing Alex, what strategy will Dan choose to protect his family?
