Fanny and Alexander

On Christmas Day 1907, two generations of the Aikoda family had a Christmas dinner together and had a great time. But the good times don't last long. The young protagonists Alexander (Bertil Guve) and Fanny (Pernilla Allwin)'s father Oscar (Allan Edwall) suddenly suffered a stroke while rehearsing "Hamlet". Before his death, he entrusted the painstakingly managed Grand Theater to his wife Emily (Ewa Froling). A year later, Emily remarried Edward, a cold and cruel young bishop with a pair of children. Edward's mother and sister were overbearing and mean, and Alexander's conflict with his stepfather became increasingly acute, but he could only endure it silently. When the old grandmother Helena (Gunn Wallgren) learned of the incident, she secretly asked her old friends for help and finally allowed the children to regain their freedom. Emily also escaped from the bishop's house, and the family reunited to enjoy family happiness. The film won many awards at the 56th Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, and Best Foreign Language Film.
