In the early 1980s, a city in Northeast China. Linjiang Municipal Party Committee Secretary Han Tao (played by Li Moran), who is about to abdicate, is worried about who will succeed him. His daughter-in-law Lu Sha (played by Fang Shu) persuades him to be a wise man, but he has concerns. Liu Zhao (played by Pang Xueqin) is a pioneering cadre whose straightforward personality usually offends many people.
