Suzanne Andler

The film is adapted from the stage play created by female writer Marguerite Duras in 1968, starring French national treasure actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and newly nominated César Award for Best Actor Niels Schneider. It tells the story of a wealthy wife Susanna and her lover spending a day at a seaside villa. Director Benoit Jacques studied under Duras and is good at capturing the subtle changes in women's psychology. He uses skillful stage-style scene planning and changes in light and shadow on the seaside, coupled with Gainsbourg's wonderful performance, to perfectly interpret a rich wife who is cold on the surface but terrified on the inside, and deceives herself in marriage and emotions. The film was selected for screening at the 2021 Hong Kong International Film Festival.
