Director:
After a burst of firecrackers / the hotel proprietress Yuqin announced her participation in the election for mayor / and faced off against Fan Baode and his family. As the election situation heats up and his illness becomes distressing / many past events are awakened from the depths of Fan Baode's memory. Or maybe because death was approaching / he decided to go to Japan with his son to find out about his father who had been away from home for fifty years. On the other hand / Yuqin asked his nephew in Hong Kong to help him campaign. Although he was unfamiliar with the place / he seemed to have a subtle relationship with him. Through multi-line narratives traveling between the past and present / "Fan Baode" slowly reveals the blood-thirsty yet subtle and indescribable family affection between two generations. It also indirectly develops a portrait of Taiwan's Cold War era with a grand scale and rarely seen in national films through memories of past events and experiences on the journey to find his father.
