The film Катя Измайлова is adapted from Leskov's essay "Lady Macbeth of Mlynks County". Katya, the daughter-in-law of a female writer, and Sergey, a helper at the writer's villa, fell in love at first sight. 30-year-old Katya found an unprecedented passion in Sergey. Dominated by lust, she wanted to have sex with Sergey whenever she had the chance. Katya's slackness in work aroused her mother-in-law's dissatisfaction. In order to clear the way for her and Sergey's future life, Katya deliberately delayed her mother-in-law's death when she was ill, and then killed and buried her husband with Sergey. Katya thought she could start living a happy life from now on. But Sergey already had a girlfriend, and he also had other plans for Katya. After learning the truth, Katya asked Sergey and his girlfriend to go into the city together. On the way, Katya lied that the car broke down and asked Sergey to repair the car. After Sergey got out of the car, Katya started the car, and she and Sergey's girlfriend fell into the river and died. Director Val Todorovsky is a leader among the new generation of Russian directors. Perhaps being born into a film family (his father is a famous director who directed the movie "International Girl" and his mother is a screenwriter and producer) gives him a natural acumen for the camera. The novel perspective and personalized design of tone and composition give the film rare delicacy and elegance.
