Two girls with contrasting personalities and completely different backgrounds met by chance at a beach resort in Atlantic City when they were eleven years old, and developed a friendship that lasted for three years. Bette Midler was a New York Jew from a working-class background. She was enthusiastic and conceited, and she dreamed of making a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Barbara is a socialite in San Francisco. She is smart, beautiful and wealthy, but she has also encountered many setbacks in love and marriage. The two exchanged letters, sharing each other's sorrows and joys, and established a relationship that was deeper than that of biological sisters. However, one day their friendship was tested.
