Penglai Dragon Coffin: The Xu Fu Treasure

This film is based on historical records and folklore of Xu Fu's eastward journey. It tells the story of explorers during the Republic of China who searched for the legendary Xu Fu Treasure on Penglai Island and eliminated Japanese spies in order to protect the Chinese treasure. This film creates the image of a Chinese explorer who is upright and full of positive energy by setting up the protagonist Chen Qilong who left the army because he was disgusted with the warlords' melee and became an explorer. Every commission earned is distributed to disabled soldiers, and the important plot of the film is that they would rather die together than let the Chinese treasures fall into the hands of the enemy. The Japanese spy Yoshioka in the film seizes China's treasures to serve the invasion, and the criminal acts of the invaders are clearly exposed. In order to help her father get rid of Japanese control, the warlord's daughter Jin Na searched for treasures everywhere, and finally died together with Yoshioka. This tragic ending also revealed the historical fact that the warlords' melee was actually a proxy war of the great powers.
