West Side Story 1961

There are two irreconcilable gangster gangs in the western slums of Manhattan. One is the "Rocket" gang led by white River, and the other is the "Sharks" gang led by Bernardo, a Puerto Rican. The two gangs hate each other and often fight and cause trouble. At a dance held in the West End, the two gangs danced with each other. River's friend Tony (Richard Beymer) and Bernardo's sister Maria (Natalie Wood) fell in love at first sight. After Bernardo discovered the love between the two, he forced his men to take his sister away. At night, Tony stood in front of Maria's window and called her, and the two fell firmly in love. The next day, Maria heard that the "Shark Gang" was going to duel with the "Rocket Gang" and asked Tony to stop it. Tony rushed to the scene and tried to stop the fight. In the chaos, his friend River was killed. He accidentally killed Bernardo out of self-defense. This caused Maria to fall into conflict and pain. She endured the scolding and insults from her family, but she could not let go of Tony. Bernardo's friend was looking for Tony with a gun to settle the score. After learning the news, Maria hurried to report the news, but tragedy happened before her... This film won the 1961 Oscar for Best Picture and Best Film.
