Crossing the Line

"Crossing the Line" has become one of the most anticipated art films of 2008. The film has just been released and has already won four international awards. Linha de Passe is set in São Paulo, a city in troubled times, and follows the daily life of a family of four half-brothers and a single mother in the lower class, showing many problems in Brazil's real society: religion, violence, crime, racial discrimination, single-parent families... The film tells the helplessness and despair that this impoverished country brings to people, and describes the unwilling but powerless struggle of the poor and the difficulty of survival. The film tells the story of a working-class family's difficult life in the football kingdom of Brazil. The central character is a middle-aged single mother with four sons, one of whom is about to be born. The three sons are about to reach adulthood. The eldest son Dario (played by de Oliveira, who once appeared in "Central Station") is quite talented in football and is facing a critical turning point in his life. But he is already 18 years old and is considered to have started too late and has little future in training. Denis (played by Baldasserini) is a lovable libertine who has a girlfriend and is the father of a baby boy. He works as a postman and rides his motorcycle every day.
