Single mother Kathy took her son Cody to her late sister's home to help her deal with the aftermath. Cody is a precocious and introverted eight-year-old boy who is not good at getting along with children of the same age. Because Cathy has cut off contact with his sister, who is 12 years apart, Cody knows nothing about this aunt. His aunt's retired veteran neighbor Dale has become his new best friend.
