The American oil giant Connex is preparing to merge with Killen, a small company that has obtained oil exploration rights in Kazakhstan, and is putting pressure on Nasir (acted by Alexander Siddig), a young prince of a Gulf oil country, over the exploration rights. Brian Woodman (Matt Damon), a researcher at an energy consulting company in Geneva, Switzerland, represented the company at Prince Nasir's party at his palace in Marbella, Spain, and later became Prince Nasir's economic adviser. However, the U.S. government supported Prince Nasir's corrupt and incompetent brother to inherit the throne, and sent CIA agent Bob (George Clooney) to Lebanon to implement a plan to assassinate Prince Nasir. At the same time, a Washington law firm sends Bennett (Jeffery Wright) to conduct a preliminary investigation into the Connex-Killen merger... The film won the Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA Best Supporting Actor (George Clooney), and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Film Music.
