1968, Dagenham, England. Ford Motor Manufacturing is undoubtedly the leader among British private companies. However, in the male-dominated automobile industry, women's status is particularly low. 187 seamstresses sweated and sewed car seat cushions in extremely harsh conditions on the factory floor. Dirty and hot working conditions, extremely long working hours, and most importantly, their wages are squeezed to extremely low levels because of their gender. However, in order to maintain the most basic expenses of life, these female workers have been enduring these unfair treatments. Finally, they decided to take to the streets holding banners and strike to protest gender discrimination at work and demand equal pay for equal work. Rita Oglendi (Sally Hawkins) is undoubtedly the leading figure in the fight for women's rights. With extraordinary courage and constant attempts, Rita led many female workers on the road to rights protection. Soon, the strike swept across the UK and became the trigger for the enactment of the Fair Pay Act to combat gender discrimination.
