"A Niu Enters the City"

"A Niu Enters the City", co-directed by Roma and Zhang Yang, takes A Niu (Yefeng), a big country, to Hong Kong and witnesses the weirdness of Hong Kong's lower-class society, with sadness, joy, blood and tears. A Niu's straightforward nature is often exploited by others. Uncle Zhou (Wang Sha) takes him to be a gambling stall "looking at water". He thinks he is looking at a bucket of water and makes a fool of himself. A Niu has done many jobs, and has been exploited by bad elements from time to time, such as helping people "catch yellow chickens" for blackmail, and doing "A Niu dance" in the walled city, etc. However, A Niu's innocence and simplicity are still loved by A Hua, which reflects the good faith of traditional society: there is no perfect path for everyone. Later, A Niu went to the dock to work as a coolie, and the workers went on strike. He continued to work, but was beaten. A Niu's self-defense caused a big commotion and was imprisoned. The ending is undoubtedly sad, but it reflects the cleverness of the director. It leaves a tail and makes the audience who care about A Niu's fate look forward to the next episode of "A Niu Released from Prison".
