Mary (Charlotte Rampling), a university professor who teaches English literature, hides a long-dormant desire under her dignified and inviolable appearance. Her life with her husband Jean (Bruno Cremer) for decades has been dull and uneventful. All this was shattered by the disappearance of her husband. One seaside morning, Jean left the holiday cabin alone and never returned. After that, Mary seemed to be trying her best to control her emotions.
