A father who is seen by outsiders as stubborn, senile, irritable, homophobic, who pushes away love and kindness, and a son who tries his best to get along with him. It seems to be a tangled, familiar and sour story. Vigo is also the screenwriter and star of the film. The film focuses on "the relationship between a son and his aging father, a private story": John (Mortensen) lives with his same-sex partner Eric and adopted daughter Monica in Southern California. Once, his retired farmer father Willis (Lance Henriksen) comes to visit and wants to live with his son for a while. The father's more traditional, family-oriented world collides with the son's world.
