Max Fisher (Jason Schwartzman), a talented and passionate young man with ideals and ambitions, studies at an aristocratic prep school in Houston. Max, who first entered a prestigious school, devoted all his attention to the club. With his extraordinary intelligence, he quickly became comfortable in various societies. However, he neglected his homework too much and soon faced the threat of being dropped out of school. By chance, he became a close friend with the successful business tycoon Herman Bloom (Bill Murray) and learned many truths about life. However, it all ended in the hands of the talented and beautiful female teacher Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams). Max is trapped in the world of love and cannot extricate himself. With its tit-for-tat witty dialogue and sense of humor, as well as the successful portrayal and interpretation of the character by new and old actors, the film won the 1999 56th Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture and the 1999 Independent Spirit Award for Best Director and Best Supporting Actor.
