Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez stars in the film as the famous Panamanian boxer Robert Duran, while Robert De Niro plays his trainer, the equally famous Ray Arcel. In the 1970s, Duran was the most terrifying figure in boxing. With his wild eyes, black hair, and ferocious fighting style, Duran is a terrifying figure for opponents in the lightweight competition. From 1972 to 1979, Duran was unstoppable in the boxing ring. He has won titles in at least three divisions. The Panamanian boxer is the only fighter in the world to still fight across five different decades. Duran was 51 years old when he retired in 2002. The film revolves around a legendary fight between Duran and another famous boxer, Sugar Ray Leonard. On November 25, 1980, the two boxers met for the second time in Louisiana. In the first match between the two seven months ago, Duran narrowly defeated Leonard. Although the match was very suspense, the off-field referees unanimously ruled that Duran won. In the second confrontation, the ending would have been very different, but Duran's team referee said "give up" in the eighth round, allowing Leonard to win the game.
