Chess of Winds

The Iranian film masterpiece "The Game of Winds" (1976) was restored this year and participated in many film festivals. In fact, few people have seen it before! This film was selected for the Tehran International Film Festival in 1976 and held a preview screening. Unfortunately, the screening was maliciously obstructed - the projector broke down and the film was damaged. Later, the film festival judges withdrew the video from the competition. With no distributor willing to invest, the producers never sent the video to any film festivals or held any public screenings (it is said that famous filmmakers Henri Langlois, Rossellini, and Saliezhere saw it at some private screenings and praised it). After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the film was banned due to its un-Islamic content. The original negative was subsequently lost, and only a censored low-definition VHS version has been circulated. After being lost for more than 40 years, the director's son accidentally discovered the 35mm negative and sound film of this film at a flea market selling old costumes and accessories! He immediately bought it and sent it to France. The video was restored by the Film Foundation, and the process was personally supervised by the director and his daughter.
