Xianghunnu

Xiang Ersao (played by Siqin Gaowa) is a smart and capable female shopkeeper. The sesame oil factory she runs has received investment from Japanese businesswomen, and the business is booming. However, she sometimes feels sad because having a husband and a child makes her heartbroken. Her wife (played by Lei Kesheng) has a disabled leg and is an alcoholic, and her child is born mentally retarded. Such a blow has put her under tremendous mental pressure. Her only happiness was the time spent with her lover (played by Chen Baoguo), but his cowardice and fear of getting into trouble gradually dashed her hopes... In order to find a good wife for her silly son, she tried to get a matchmaker to match her, but most of the girls who applied were interested in her family property. In the end, she made a clever plan to break up a pair of like-minded lovers, and used money to force the kind girl Huan Huan (played by Wu Yujuan) to submit. However, the development of things was far beyond her expectation... The film won the Golden Bear Award for Best Film at the 43rd Berlin Film Festival in 1993.
