War and Peace

In 1812, Napoleon's armies controlled most of Europe. Among the few unconquered countries, Russia planned to join Austria in a desperate resistance. The noble Prince Andrei (played by Mel Ferrer) is such an ambitious Russian officer. However, Andre's close friend Duke Pierre (Henry Fonda) does not care about the war. He became the heir to his father's estate before his death and married Helen (Anita Ekberg), the daughter of an aristocrat, but soon after the marriage, they found that their personalities were incompatible and they separated. After Andre failed in the battle, he was released and returned home to visit his wife who died in childbirth. A few months later, Pierre and Count Rostov's family were going hunting and called Andrei. Andre fell in love at first sight with the count's daughter Natasha (Audrey Hepburn). Soon, Natasha accepted Andrei's proposal, but Andrei soon returned to the army. Helen's brother Anatole took advantage of the situation, deceived Natasha's love, and instigated Natasha to elope with him. When the Russo-French War began, Natasha met Andre, who was seriously injured. Andre forgave Natasha for her betrayal before he died. war
