In the nineteenth century in the western United States, a carriage was driving in the desert. There were nine strangers in the car. Among them are Dallas (Claire Trevor), a prostitute who was driven out of the town, Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell), an alcoholic doctor, Lucy Mallory, a pregnant woman looking for her husband, Samuel Peacock, a whiskey merchant, and Ringo Kid (John Wayne) who escaped from prison to avenge his father. There are many dangers along the way. The carriage has to avoid being chased by Indians. Dallas has to endure the contempt and neglect of others, except Ringo, who has a crush on her. Ringo, on the other hand, has to deal with his relationship with the police. Pregnant Lucy is about to give birth halfway. Can the drunk doctor save the day? After a journey full of hardships and dangers, can Ringo and Dallas, two marginalized people in society, finally come together? The film was nominated for five Oscars in 1940, winning two awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Score.
