Earth Defense Force

A lively festival is taking place in a small village under Mount Fuji, but a sudden mountain fire has plunged people into panic, and astronomer Ryoichi Shiraishi (played by Hirata Akihiko) has disappeared in the chaos. Soon, strange events such as landslides and sinkholes occurred in the area, and a huge, terrifying robot appeared, wreaking havoc on surrounding towns. Shiraishi's friends Atsumi Joeji (played by Kenji Sahara) and Dr. Kenjiro Adachi (played by Joe Shimura) accompanied the army to the local investigation. They unexpectedly encountered an alien spherical base and were invited by the other party. Aliens claim that their planet was destroyed by a nuclear war a long time ago, and the survivors wandered the universe looking for a suitable habitat. They hope that people on earth will open up land with a radius of 3 kilometers for aliens to live in, and allow them to intermarry with women on earth. Humanity rejected this and formed the Earth Defense Force to fight against the extraterrestrial visitors... This film is Toho's first special photography film to use a wide screen.
