Chapter introduction: 1 Beginnings (3100 B.C. - 1000 A.D.) (The film spans 4000 years in time from the Iron Age to today.) Ancient Britain was a prosperous area, and the Romans called it a place where prestige and wealth gathered. Many British chiefs at that time had and accepted Roman rules and adopted the Roman way of life. The completion of the Hadrian Wall marked the emergence of the province in Britain. 400 years after the fall of the Roman Empire, its dream of unification endured. Alfred openly challenged the pseudo-kingdom and drove the pirates away from the kingdom's land. Finally, the kingdom was conquered by the Normans. 2 Conquest (1000-1087) After the nine-hour Battle of Hastings, everything changed. The Normans replaced the Anglo-Saxons, and Britain embarked on a different path. When the French arrived, Harold disarmed his brother Tostig. He led the last of his troops in a charge southward 187 miles. Finally he faced William's knights and bows rushing towards him on Mount Senlac.
