抗战初期，东北某地。小学教师冷云（张凯丽 饰）不愿做伪满统治下的亡国奴，毅然与做伪事的丈夫决裂，投奔抗联，抗联老战士王皮袱（江化霖 饰）为掩护女儿王惠民（蔡莺 饰）和冷云脱险光荣牺牲。冷云和王惠民在五合村亲眼目睹了日寇的残暴，和几个有共同遭遇的姐妹一起加入到抗联队伍。冷云在山上，教姐妹们识字，给她们讲述革命道理，并在老林里建起秘密宿营地，在极端恶劣的条件下，为前线战友赶制棉衣，照顾前方送来的伤员。
