20世纪90年代，东北小镇桦林，意外出现的碎尸块引起轰动。炼钢厂工人王响（范伟 饰）一辈子勤勤恳恳，坚守原则，却面临着首批下岗的残酷现实。为了能立功留在厂里，他积极配合警方的调查，与此同时则忽略了儿子王阳（刘奕铁 饰）的反常变化。高考落榜的王阳此前喜欢上了美丽清纯的女大学生沈墨（李庚希 饰），他的赤诚与才情慢慢开启女孩的心扉。沈墨来自一个畸形的原生家庭，为了生计她在某家歌舞厅弹琴打工，却无法抵抗命运的嘲弄和戕害。经警方初步推断，碎尸案受害者可能正与失踪的沈墨以及一名港商有关。
