梅木好彦自幼就立志要成为农民，长大后的他隐居深山过上了自给自足的务农生活，然而在40岁后，他决定帮助他人充实人生。梅木久代两岁时因病失去了听觉，30岁后又逐渐失去了视觉。两次想要寻死的她最终却顽强地活了下来，决定重整旗鼓享受生活。就这样，两人在年过半百后相识相爱，一起来到了山中生活。这对全凭手语交流的夫妻看似与常人不同，实则十分相似。他们也会争吵，也会开玩笑，也会一起追电视剧… NHK纪录片“视听之外”记录了他们的生活，虽然看不见你的容颜听不见你的声音，却也依旧可以执子之手，与子偕老。
