宝音是一名乌拉特牧民的儿子。作为民警，因为地域广阔，他必须骑着摩托车奔波于1672平方公里的土地上。 宝音的日常工作，除了跑遍各个厂矿企业登记流动人口、为牧民处理各种鸡毛蒜皮的小事外，还义务承担着戈壁邮递员的角色。他的生活看起来孤独、艰辛而又机械，却肩负着维护边疆稳定的重担。 这时候，一些意外事件发生了，尤其是戈壁上来了两个年轻女人。卓拉从锡盟赶来寻亲，生父却一时不愿相认，宝音的母亲希望至今单身的儿子能和卓拉好上……李红是一个汉族姑娘，和男友来到乌拉特草原，却诡异地被杀害了，凶手是谁？迟迟没有线索……此外，宝音因为工作成绩的突出，有望获得一笔特别奖励，他不禁对改善自身贫穷的生活展开了种种憧憬…… 总之，平静的工作和生活被打破了，宝音变得有点忙乱不堪。最终，宝音在每件事上都作出了让人感动的选择。
