1938年，我地下党组织在上海的电台被敌人破坏后，延安解放区电台政委李侠（孙道临）来到上海，白天他是一名商人，晚上则躲在阁楼间收发电报，为了进一步做好保密工作，党组织同时安排纱厂女工何兰芬（袁霞）与他假扮成夫妻。两人在工作中产生真情，结为真夫妻。 日军通过一系列手段发现 了阁楼间的电台，李侠被捕，虽遭受了非人的折磨，他始终守口如瓶，致使日军以为他仅是为商业电台工作，将他释放。日军投降后，李侠夫妇又同国民党展开了斗争。解放战争即将取得胜利时，电台被国民党发现，李侠接到到紧急撤退的通知，但此时，他又收到两份极为重要的情报。
