该片主要讲述的是1942年，江南新四军与旧、日伪进行着残酷的战斗，国民党军队环伺左右。国民党将军郝俊杰（李雪健 饰）预料到数年后国共必有一战，便策划实施了借用一支向新四军投诚的汪伪部队第七师第31团，从内部一举打垮江南新四军的“金太阳计划”。 当这个设计周密、异常凶险的危机袭来的时候，新四军指挥员车道宽（胡军 饰）率小分队进驻31团进行改编，以超乎常人的警觉性和果敢的行动，一步步识破了敌人的阴谋。最终带领战友们杀出血路，在千钧一发之际改变了战场格局并获得了胜利。该剧剧情悬念不断，高潮戏纷至沓来。七十余个剧中角色皆有实力演员担纲出演。
