经过长达一年的艰苦鏖战，刘伯承（傅学诚 饰）、邓小平（卢奇 饰）的大军成功撕破黄河的缺口，在国民党统治区插入一把寒光毕露的尖刀。但是二野却突然调转方向，大有撤回黄河之势。蒋介石（孙飞虎 饰）误认为刘邓疲惫不堪试图逃跑，遂调集14万大军意图将对手在黄泛区彻底歼灭。泥泞坎坷的征途，二野遭受国军无情炮弹的洗礼，被困在黄泛区不得动弹。另一方面，陈赓迟迟找不到渡河方案，战略反攻的设想眼看落空，解放战争到了生死存亡关头。邓小平果断建议丢掉包袱，朝向大别山做着最后的挺进。 以无数血肉艰苦换来的战果，对国家的历史走向起着决定性的作用……
